This is the classic shot of the Alt Stadt (Old City) of Heidelberg with the castle on the hill and the Karl-Theodor-Brücke (bridge) in the foreground. I must confess that one summer night when I (young, foolish and twenty) and a group of buddies from the barracks had tied on a few too many brews, we ended up sleeping (passing out?) under a span of the bridge across from the city. Our house is in a neighborhood across the street from Ferris State University and the students who live around us can occasionally get a bit rowdy. To a point, I can relate to their wanting to kick up their heels -- just not every weekend!
Back to our topic. Somewhere in our family genealogy there's an Army or Air Force General, Nathaniel Weede, I think, but don't hold me to it.
And coming out of the library world, "weeding" has a very specific meaning as librarians purge the shelves of unworthy (either by poor physical condition or outdated content) books and library materials.
For me, today was plain old workday in, you guessed it, the weeds.
However, what a day to be outside! With snow flurries in Big Rapids just a week ago, we're itching for good weather. After my morning exercise routine I was hot and sweaty, but the morning was gorgeous -- the temperature hardly got to 75 degrees through the day and it was sunny most of time, with a gentle breeze picking up from time to time. I peeled off my tee shirt and, attired in my blue sport shorts, tackled first mowing the lawn, and then came the weeds.
Problem was I liked being out a little too well and looked a little like a lobster by the time I got inside around half-past five. It was worth it, though, and I have the beginnings of a good summer tan...
